OMFG! GUYS! One of the poems I sent out last night is going to be published! PUBLISHED! In a real honest to god paper and ink LITERARY JOURNAL! OMFG!
The poem is called “On a Body Which is Aesthetically Displeasing and Yet I Right Now Wish Were Closer To My Own” and is coming out in the next issue of nibble.
It’s a short little nothing sonnet that I scribbed out last week but I thought it was kind of pretty good and I guess somebody out there agreed with me! Somebody who PUBLISHES A LITERARY JOURNAL! I am having thirty heart attacks a second over here.
Hey, you know that thing you are scared as balls to do? Have always wanted to try but are terrified to death of? Fuck your fear and fuck thinking you’re not good enough. Go out and do it. Right now. Right now.
The world is good to us in our moments of bravery.

Yay! Give me the name and info of this place? I have been meaning to start submitting my stuff around.. again.
The magazine is called nibble — it’s small press and specializes in short poems. Apparently they hate rhyming poems, so I’m not sure how I sneaked in with a sonnet…
In general, for publishing, have you checked out Duotrope? It’s this amazing online database that knows pretty much every journal. You can sort through them all with categories like paper/electronic distribution, whether electronic submissions are accepted, whether they pay (ha!), what genres they accept, etc. It’s a great way to find out about journals that are in your niche, their acceptance rates, and how to get in! I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
Congratulations! I don’t think I can follow your advice though. One more restraining order and technically I wouldn’t be able to be in the county.
Congrats! You go girl.
Excellent – yay for bravery!
I’m so excited for you; those journals pay what? $900 per published poem, right?
haha, THANK YOU! Also, $900 is a lowball estimate — the running rate for us sonnet-y dudes is at least $70/line…
Actually, it’s kind of embarrassing: the pay for contributors is one copy of the magazine, and I’m totally going to be That Girl who’s like, uh, can I buy like 15 more copies, guys?
Oh well — you only publish your first poem once, and I’ll be as embarrassing and cliche as I want about it, by gum!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is so so exciting! I seriously just read the other post about submitting earlier tonight and now I come back to blogger and there it is! The girl is published!
Way to go, lady!
Congratulations! Queue up “So Much Better” from the Legally Blonde Musical soundtrack! You totally are the kind of girl who writes amazingly well and gets published!
Congratulations!
This makes you the 3rd or 4th person I know and would classify as an e-friend who’s managed to get some of their fiction published. The others are all SF authors though.
Whaditellya, ah? Win-win.
This is so awesome!! Congrats!
I’m trying to fuck my fear right now…I think I’ve just annoyed it though :]
YES!! I am SO pumped for you!
Yay! That’s awesome…as we all know how hard it is :)
Congratulations! A huge accomplishment… hope it’s the first of many.
I don’t know how I missed this post but CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I knew you were good! You know how sometimes I say congratulations and you don’t really FEEL it. I’m totally REAL smiling right now. You rock!
