TKOG Who … GIVES YOU STUFF

by That Kind of Girl on December 8, 2009

[Wednesday morning edit: A winner has been picked, but not yet contacted! Waiting for a guest post to go up before I link. Winner should be up by noon!]

BLOG GIVEAWAY!!!

Get psyched get psyched get psyched! You guys, since the dawn of this little blog, I’ve wanted to be one of those fancy bloggers who bribes her readers to delurk celebrates her badass readership by strewing them with prizes galore. Then I remembered, of course, that a) am kind of the antithesis of fancy girly bloggy giveaway-ness; and b) am funding this out of my own wallet, in which generations of moths are happily breeding. Thus, this giveaway is going to be weird, as you have come to expect from TKOG.

Um, can we talk about SOME PRIZES?!

We can, guys. We can. Because it is my ambition to be universally pleasing, I’ve selected a variety of three prizes from which you can choose:

PG Wodehouse novel. Chosen by TKOG. Probably something out of print. If you haven’t read Wodehouse, let me tell you that if my absurd wordplay brings ever the faintest glimmer of a smile to your face, then Wodehouse will change yo’ dang life.

OR

Yummy Lush goodies. Something floral or sweet or citrusy or masculine — whatever pleases you. If it’s not obvious, I’m totally obsessed with Lush, and would be happy to spread their gospel. We can talk about your preferences and I’ll send either a massage bar (good for sexytimes!) or some yummy soap (good for all the times.)

OR

Something fun from Good Vibrations. I still have a coupon there from the blowjob class I took a while back, and could use it to pick up something vanilla, suitable for solo play or couples, of either gender.

Do none of these prize ideas work for you? Well, if you don’t like reading, bathing or fornicating, I think you might be at the wrong blog. Apologies, loves.

Okay, what do I do to get my hands on some of this magic?

Good question, guys. Sad to admit that aside from giving one of you guys something COMPLETELY AWESOME, this, like every other blog giveaway, is a bit of a promotions game. I’m sorry! That makes me feel like a jerk! I assure you it’s uncharacteristic of me even to engage in! Buuuuut:

Participants can earn up to five entries; one each for the following tasks:

  1. Leave a comment on this blog entry. It can just say “hi” or “dude” or you can leave it blank — I’m not picky!
  2. Follow me on an RSS reader (or already have been following me.) and let me know in a comment here. Honor system.
  3. Tweet about this giveaway. Be sure to include my twitter handle — @WhatKindOfGirl — and a link to this entry so I can verify it.
  4. Mention this giveaway on your own blog. With a link, please! No need for anything elaborate — just a mention, and possibly a link, and, ooh, maybe you could Photoshop a picture of Hugh Laurie gazing soulfully at me, or — wait. What were we talking about?
  5. Suggest something I’m Not The Kind of Girl to do. Have any ideas for NTKOGs that might be funny/embarrassing for me to do, and utterly delightful for you to read about? My only specifications: nothing too $$$, and not karaoke. I’m already the karaoke queen. Leave suggestions in a comment here, email ‘em, tweet ‘em, mash ‘em, fry ‘em — whatever.

But TKOG! I don’t have a blog/what is RSS/Tweeting is a Web 2.0 tool for the sexting generation!

That’s cool, kittens. You can go ahead and get UP TO FIVE ENTRIES for suggesting NTKOGs, even if you don’t do any of the other options. Sound fair?

Deadline is noon, Tuesday, December 15! At which point, I’ll shoot all the entries into a randomizer and pick a winner.

You guys are you JUST TOO EXCITED?! I for one am just too excited.

Now I have to go read Wodehouse. Because I don’t have a Twitter, I don’t know what an RSS feed would do to my already woeful office computer, and you’re far too brilliant with your ideas already for me to come up with something better.

But I do foist your bloggy goodness on anyone I can, since the writing is, as I’ve expressed before, brilliant.

Hey Girlie,

I would like a cookie from that bakery as my prize!

Huggies (not the diaper kind)

Delurking! Delurking! I honestly don’t remember how I stumbled across your blog, but I spent last Sunday ignoring my kids so I could read all of your past entries. Good times. Just like you, I up and moved from sunny California to the East coast (Virginia). Except for the fact that I’m married with two kids, three cats, a dog, and live a totally boring, never NTKOG life, we’re exactly the same!

Well, at least I love reading and I totally say dude.

(BTW, I tried your “ask and you shall receive) trick yesterday and it TOTALLY WORKED. Dude!)

Reply

That Kind of Girl December 8, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Dude! I love it! What did you ask and then receive?! (Seriously, by the way, doesn’t that trick work way better than one could even imagine?)

Thanks for delurking!

Oh, it was random – I was ordering Christmas cards online and noticed that if I wanted to get the cards delivered and still have time to actually mail them out sometime in December (what a concept), it was going to cost me $20. Um, excuse me, $20 should have those cards on my doorstep in by dinner, not a week from now. So I chatted with customer service and they gave it to me free of charge. Score!

If you don’t like reading, bathing or fornicating, you should probably not only reconsider your blog choice, but your entire life. I mean really.

And I totally follow you on Google reader. How else would I be sure i’m up to date on my vicarious living?

I’ve been following you for months and loving every entry. I even told my boyfriend that you should totally make this into a book because it’s a cool idea.

Anyway, all sucking up aside, I’ve never read Wodehouse before. Hint hint hinnnnnt

well, since you insist…

My girlfriend pointed your blog out to me, and since you’re an avid Drone and a Lush-person, and pretty cool besides, I put you on the google reader post haste. I have til now been lurking, but I shall lurk no more and reveal myself. Hi.

Also tweeted this – don’t know how to do a status, but I’m MisterPunch, it should have popped up.

By my reckoning that makes three entries. Pip Pip

Wow, what a coincidence, I like reading, bathing showering, and fornicating.

I don’t think I’ve read any Wodehouse. I often buy Lush products for my special someone(s). I’ve got you in my RSS. I LOVE the Akward Erotica, but wish there were more (hinthint).

As for a NTKOG thing do, the only think I can think of is going the mass hysteria of a Boston sporting event. You mentioned how much you loved the BU hockey game. New Years day the Bruins are playing an outdoor game in Fenway Park. The NHL only does the one Winter Classic game a year, and this is the first one the Bs have been in, and it’s in Boston, and it’s outdoors, and it will be full of hockey fans, and it will be a terrible way to get over your hangover from First Night, and it’s not the kind of thing many people at all will do!

haha, so since there don’t appear to be any ineligibility rules…

you’re on my rss feed & google reader. i’ve already tweeted… and i’ll link in my blog (but i have a small readership so…).

as for a ntkog?

i seem to have this notion that you are not an ‘omg! look at the cute wild animals that are closely related to rats!’ kind of girl… so go feed the squirrels in the boston commons. though, this may need to wait until spring… the squirrels are particularly fond of unshelled peanuts, btw. AND they will take them directly out of your hands. and you should have photographic evidence.

Reply

Sister December 9, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Oh, Brain Doc! A brilliant NTKOG suggestion, in deed, because this is definitely something that she would never do! The girl won’t even pet the cute beastie doggies when she goes home. They kind of get excited to see her, and then she looks at them and they run away in fright.

+1 for posting

+1 for posting about it on my blog http://dibblyfresh1.blogspot.com/

+1 for a suggestion. Audition for a play/theatre event. Even if you have no intention of being in it. (Bonus points if you sing “Memories.”)

Reply

Muscles December 8, 2009 at 11:46 pm

So completely perfect! You’re right, NTKOG is NOT that kind of girl – she was going to audition for my theater group at PWCU but didn’t have the chutzpah to go through with it (right, NTKOG? or I am making this up?)

And she’ll have a resume from the stand-up act she’s going to try. Ugh, I want to be there.

Found your blog through Hello Kitty Hell and you have been ‘scribed on ye olde Reader of Google ever since.

So you’ve hosted a LAN party, but have you ever been to a full-blown sci-fi, anime, and/or video game convention? I envision much hilarity (and possibly creepiness) if such a thing has/should ever come to pass.

I don’t remember how I found your blog, but I’m glad that I did. NTKOG is a great project and I’m still going through the archives to see what I can try too.

For a possible NTKOG, how do you feel about guerrilla art, something temporary, like yarn bombing or a chalk sidewalk masterpiece, any other public street art?

I’m following you by having you on my blogroll.

Reply

ali December 8, 2009 at 8:10 pm

I love and follow your blog! I have posted a link on my blog that nobody reads. Does that still count? (Still working on the Hugh Laurie pic… how ’bout one of him as Wooster?) I loooove Lush (it’s been almost six years since I discovered it! Oh, time flies), oh your contest is exciting.

You have inspired me to do a giveaway (or two or three) on my blog. Too bad no one reads it… sigh. Now I’ll stop complaining.

As for the last one, I dunno. Ever washed dishes in a restaurant on account of not paying? Do they really make people do that? That’s cheap… Or are you the kind of girl who takes spontaneous (road or otherwise) trips? If not, you should try it.

I’m more excited about this than I maybe should be, but those prizes look awesome and I love your blog! I’m commenting (+1) and I have been following you on Google Reader since I saw you on The Baby-Sitters Club Revisited (+1). I don’t have Twitter because I’m not that consistently interesting, but I’ve been recommending your blog to folks in person and I just posted it to my Facebook profile (+1?).

I wish Sadako hadn’t beaten me to suggesting auditioning with “Memory.” Damn! My boyfriend suggests assuming a foreign accent and keeping it up for an entire social encounter (e.g. bookstore visit, haircut, etc.). Bonus points if you use a false name.

Reply

Katie December 8, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Another suggestion from the bf: spend a day as a street performer – sounds like dancing in public is out, but maybe an instrument, whistling, mime, whatever you got. He warns that you might *technically* need a permit for this, so maybe do a little research first. If you do it, please post video!

Reply

Katie December 8, 2009 at 10:39 pm

And a suggestion actually from me (and then I’ll leave you alone): Are you TKOG who bakes bread from scratch? I made my first real loaf this weekend and kneading is actually SO MUCH FUN if you sometimes want to punch things. If you’re actually NTKOG, give it a try. I can send you a good recipe.

Reply

Muscles December 8, 2009 at 11:49 pm

This was something I had suggested to NTKOG that I might guest post about. I’m a terrible guitar player and would piss people off by just playing “Wonderwall” over and over again since it’s the only song I can remember. Though I don’t know if I have the stomach for busking of any kind.

Reply

Justice December 9, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Mmm, Muscles and I made bread this summer scratch (and pizza dough!). The pizza dough was delicious (on the second try), the bread was . . . not as good as store bought. I think it’s because we also grew our own yeast, so the bread tasted a bit like our disgusting communal kitchen. Shudder.

Reply

Ken O December 10, 2009 at 4:36 am

I bake my own bread lots, and think you’re probably right about growing your own yeast. I use “Hovis” brand pre-activated in sachets.

Also, I normally get more taste, less “additives” like “flour improver” (whatever that is) and artificial vitamins, but the loaves have a heavier, less “cotton-wool” texture too them. Any help, given how much advice I can give from 3_000 miles away?

Reply

Greta December 8, 2009 at 10:31 pm

OMG! I am obsessed with Lush too! Count this as numero uno entry.

And….onto numero dos…

How about an “NTKOG: to adopt a puppy”..I mean, how great is this idea..just in time for the holidays. Doesn’t every girl want a puppy to jump out of the box with a bow on its head?

Numero tres…blogging you right now.

and 4….have subscribed to you via RSS on my Google Reader.

and 5…tweeting right after blogging.

Thank you and I look forward to my potential Lush Christmas!

OOooo I like the street performing idea… and if you actually do stand-up, you should definitely post when and where so us Bostonians can cheer you on/laugh hysterically. WITH you, of course, not at you…

I bet you are definitely NTKOG to attend a good ol’ fashioned book burnin’, so maybe you could find one of those? I don’t know, I just read this post so I don’t have enough time to think! But I do follow you of course, because of how in love with you I am. Which is very.

as a poor grad student, I consider it my duty to take advantage of opportunities to get free things whenever possible. you’re absolutely in my google reader, and I just tweeted about your giveaway. no link because tweets are protected, but you should add me on twitter anyway because I frequently post pithy and amusing things.

when you’re in Vegas, could you be TKOG who gets coffee with a high school acquaintance? I know, I know the suggestion doesn’t count for the randomizer, but it could be fun!

Reply

That Kind of Girl December 9, 2009 at 11:32 am

dude, let us totally get coffee while I’m in Vegas! i get in on 19th; my info is on fbook.

dare I suggest we also have a misadventure? possibly one that takes advantage of your gory make-up application skills?!

Reply

Ken O December 9, 2009 at 4:55 am

I like the street performer idea too.

Adopting an animal, not so much, because that’s a lifetime committment, rather than a 1-off blog posting.

I’ve been following since “Not a Hello Kitty Fangirl” was on Hello Kitty Hell (but post under a different alias there).

Oh and I really don’t want to win anything, because of trans-Atlantic shipping, so leave me out of the randomiser, ok?

I don’t know if it’s kosher for me to put my name in the ring, but I’m doing it anyway because you know I don’t say no to free stuff. So:

1) I commented
2) I’m totally following you on Google RSS
3) I came back from my several month long hiatus on twitter just to tweet about you (check it out!)
4) I don’t have a blog! I tried to resurrect my defunct Freshman-year blog for this purpose, but I made it by invite only and I forgot my password! It is now lost forever. Never shall Crazy Cow enjoy her delicious cereal again.
5) I suggested this idea to Muscles for NTKOGuy, but he chickened out. So: Borrow a guitar/harmonica/ukulele/bagpipes from someone, set up shop on a street corner somewhere and see how much your musical skills are worth. In case you can’t acquire any of the above instruments, Christmas is just around the corner, perfect time for caroling. Actually, now that I’ve written that, caroling seems like an even better (less illegal?) NKTOG.

Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

Reply

Justice December 9, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I just read some of the other comments and discovered I was not the first to come up with the street performed idea. Shame. But I still think caroling is awesome. Christmas cheer! Love all around!
